It appeared in the Heritage catalogue with the following description : "One of the scarcer branch mint issues from the 1920s, the 1925-D shows its true rarity at the present level. Both sides are equally free of toning and surface disruptions. As befits the Full Bands designation, the central reverse exhibits boldly split, fully rounded crossbands. With luster to spare, this flashy coin should be considered among the ultimate representatives of this D-mint issue." This piece represents the highest amount brought for the grade in a Heritage sale, with the selling price close to what a couple of MS-67 FB's have brought. This doesn't appear be a fluke or just crazed bidding. It is almost certain that very astute buyers competed for a coin that they felt was very, very high-end for the grade.
