To expand on this theory, we offer the following facts:According to the NGC Census Report and the PCGS Price Guide in late April 2007, we put these facts forward. A common date $20 St. Gaudens equals $1,075 on the PCGS Price Guide. On the NGC Census Report the St. Gauden's three most common dates (1908, 1924, and 1927) in MS64 population equals 151,536. These coins are almost one full ounce of gold and have a long history and trading range as an investment vehicle. The advantage to these coins is they are widely recognized certified coins that are easy to buy and easy to sell. For years, we have called them commodity coins. Yes, they are better than just gold but not by much. A comparison for the 1984-W Olympic gold coin in NGC Proof 70 Ultra Cameo is that this was the first gold coin minted by the United States Mint in over 50 years. When they first came out the marketing mechanisms weren't in place and the public for the most part has never really cared. There are a lot of one-sies and two-sies around and NGC has always been extremely stingy giving up the Proof 70 Ultra Cameo grade. NGC has been grading coins all day, every day since they opened in 1987. That is 20 years and millions and millions of coins that have past through the NGC turnstiles. It is quite interesting to note that they have only graded, in all grade, less than 3,000 coins and only 510 in the perfect Proof 70 Ultra Cameo grade. The PCGS Price Guide, known for being quite high and for being worth more than NGC coins, values this coin at $4,500. This coin is just about a half ounce of pure gold. You are contemplating making an offer on (5) MS64 $20 St. Gaudens gold and (5) 1984-W Olympic Gold $10 NGC PR70 Ultra Cameo. That is (10) gold coins total each certified by either NGC or PCGS. Looking at this auction and evaluating which coin is worth more, the wholesale levels are probably closer than you think. When you compare the wholesale value of the 1984-W compared to the $20 St. Gaudens although, clearly the long-term retail collector value of the 1984-W is much more exciting. So, if you can't decide which is a better investment, then this lot is perfect for you. Go ahead and make your best offer. As always, we'd love to hear from you with a friendly phone call. Unwelcome and Malicious Buying: Once in a blue moon, pun intended, we make a typographical error in one of our listings. For example, if we have the Buy It Now of a 1oz gold coin set at 99 cents that would be a typographical error. If this, or something similar happens, or you suspect it might have happened, we request that you call us to confirm the auction. By not calling us and just purchasing the item listed, you are violating the terms of this auction and placing an unwelcome and malicious bid. Thus nullifying the purchase. We would like to thank you in advance for your understanding and for following this simple rule. SquareTrade © AP6.0
